For 30 years PADNOS has embraced innovation with proof that innovation and success go hand-in-hand. Our employees make the difference which is why the continuous innovation program is vital to our success. Hundreds to thousands of great ideas are submitted each year with many implemented throughout the company. This caught the attention of an esteemed periodical, Forbes, whom chose Mary Josephs to write an incredible piece explaining our program in-depth with mentions of those employees whose ideas were implemented. We couldn't be more appreciative that not only did Forbes choose us, but that Josephs wrote such an incredible piece.

Calling all artists, filmmakers, and recyclers! Students in grades K–12 are invited to participate in a national recycling awareness contest sponsored by the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (link is external) (ISRI) and JASON Learning. The theme of this year’s contest is "Recycling is Bigger than the Bin!"
Most of the recycling we see today happens in the blue bin in your house. We recycle our paper, newspapers, aluminum cans, plastic bottles, and steel food cans by placing them in the blue bin and putting it on the curb once a week. That’s easy!
But what about those things that are “bigger than the bin” -- how are those recycled?

Holland, as noted before, is extraordinary as a manufacturing center; I just saw a report saying that some 40% of its regional economy was manufacturing-based. Depending on how you count, that would be about twice the national average. Beyond that (and beyond its farming, tourist, and higher-ed businesses) one very important local employer is the family-owned Louis Padnos scrap and recycling company, whose numerous facilities include some on the lakefront right in downtown Holland. The coal-fired power plant that supports the city's innovative "snowmelt" system is next door. Nowhere you go in this town can you overlook its Dutch-religious heritage, or the role of its industries.
