Leaders in Recycling and Processing of Metal, Paper and Plastic
The Hot Briquetter produces Hot Briquettes from Steel Turnings and Cast Iron Borings by heating the material then pressing it into a solid briquette. The briquettes have a moisture content of less than 1% and can hold together during material handling. This Briquetter is one of two in the world and has been operating at Padnos’ Holland site since 1976.
The Blockcrusher crushes and washes engine blocks. Material sorters remove aluminum and other attachments from engine blocks. Clean crushed washed auto cast is produced and can be used in steel mills and foundries as a pig iron substitute. The Blockcrusher has been operating in Padnos’ Holland Yard since 1973.
The Shear cuts miscellaneous scrap consisting of I-beams, farm equipment, tanks, racks, and/or other steel of similar character. After the material has been cut to size, it travels by conveyor to a sorting house where a team of material sorters hand sort the material into bins according to specific foundry or steel mill requirements. This process allows us to tailor the product to meet the needs of any customer, no matter how large or small they are. Padnos currently operates three ferrous shears: Holland, Lansing & Grand Rapids.
The Shredder converts post consumer scrap ranging from appliances and automobiles to steel desks into #2 shredded steel. A hammer mill shreds the sheet iron material into pieces small enough to fit through grates on the bottom of the machine. The material is then conveyed over a series of magnets and cyclones to separate the steel from the nonferrous aggregate and the residue. The steel then passes through a sorting house where material sorters remove any copper or non-metallics that did not get removed mechanically. The shredder also produces #1 frag from new production industrial scrap.
Padnos currently operates three shredders, two automobile shredders, one in Holland, one in Grand Rapids, and a clip shredder in Lansing.
Padnos currently operates four ferrous balers, one in Holland, two in Grand Rapids and one in Lansing which are used in ferrous processing. New production industrial scrap or post consumer goods including tin cans are among the materials that are processed at the balers. These balers also have the capability of varying the size of the bundles that are compressed in the process to meet the specific needs of the consumer.
Padnos currently operates two nonferrous balers, one in Grand Rapids and one in Muskegon along with several upstroke balers and brickers which are also used in nonferrous processing.
Padnos operates a state of the art secondary fibers recycling facility in Grandville, Michigan. A conveyor carries various grades of secondary fiber ranging from corrugated cardboard to shredded office paper into a baler where the material is compressed and tied into approximately one ton bales. Paper mills use the recycled paper in their processes.
The nonferrous aggregate that is generated from the shredding process is further separated at an Eddy Current System where more residue is removed from the nonferrous that was attached to the sheet iron before it was shredded to prepare the aggregate for export or domestic use.
Padnos operates a plastics granulator, consolidates and packages plastics to meet the customer’s needs.
